Hull City Ladies FC 4 – 1 Harrogate Town Ladies
After five months without any football, Hull City Ladies secured back-to-back pre-season wins after a 4:1 victory over Harrogate Town Ladies.
After a 2-0 win over Wakefield Trinity LFC two weeks ago, The Tigresses picked up their 2nd victory in pre-season on Sunday at wet and windy Haworth Park.
Fresh from scoring on her debut two weeks ago, Aaliyah Allen picked up from where she left off as three minutes in, she forced a great save from Harrogate’s keeper.
A few minutes later, with the Tigresses in the driving position going forward, Eden Pederson sent a great ball through to Liberty Bott, but her stinging shot was saved well to keep the scorelines even.
A brilliant cross from the left by Emily Smith almost resulted in an own goal, following the corner she was almost in again but from the edge of the area sent her shot over the bar.
On the 33rd minute, the Tigresses broke the deadlock, after another great cross from Smith, Allen was in the right place at the right time as she headed home her second goal in as many matches.
It was more good work from Smith five minutes later, her pass found Katie Thompson but her effort was blocked. Two minutes later, Smith was not be denied again, her long-range effort rifled the net to put Hull City Ladies two scores up.
Minute from half-time, Harrogate was unlucky not to score after they hit the post as HCLFC took a 2-0 well-deserved lead into the break.
Adi Costello rang the changes at half-time as five players were substituted. Emma Westmorland nearly made an instant impact as her shot from long range was parried onto the bar by the keeper but she managed to just keep on.
However, one minute later a sub did make an instant impact, substitute Bethan Padget brilliant first time shot found the back of the net to put Hull City Ladies into a commanding 3-0 lead.
Quick thinking from Bott’s free-kick found Smith but she couldn’t capitalise on the superb ball as Smith’s shot narrowly dipped over the crossbar.
Allen was nearly in to score again after a fantastic through ball but Harrogate’s keeper smothered the ball at her feet.
On the 76th minute mark, Harrogate effort and determination were marked with a consolation goal, after a good ball in from a free-kick flashed in after a bullet header.
It was a fantastic reaction from the Tigresses as they restored their three-goal advantage just one minute later. HCLFC raced up-field after the restart as Thompson pulled the ball back from the byline to Allen who smashed in her second of the game and the Tigresses fourth.
Another quality move on the break, as Padget and Allen excellently linked up to find Rebecca Beech but her shot was easily saved. Padget and Allen linked up again two minutes later, Padget’s through ball found Allen but her shot was wide off the mark. In the closing stages, Cooke pulled off a great save to keep the score at 4-1 which clinched two consecutive wins for Hull City Ladies.
