Hull City Ladies was pleased to announce in 2019 that Carol Thomas was the Tigress first club ambassador.

The former England international women’s defender succeeded Sheila Parker as captain in 1976, holding that position until her retirement in 1985.

In her time as captain she set some exceptional milestones; she became the first England captain to surpass 50 caps and also captained her side to their inaugural trophy. A success in the home International tournament against Wales and Scotland. Carol also became the first women qualified coach. Carol remained the longest, continuous serving captain for a period of 26 years before being overtaken by Faye White in 2011.

An inspiration to the Tigresses, female players & everyone in Hull!

Each year, the University of Hull aims to recognise exceptional and outstanding personal achievement, stature and distinction through our Honorary Degrees.

Once awarded, our honorary graduates serve as incredible role models for the current and future generations of the University’s students.

Honorary Degrees have been an ongoing distinction of respect and admiration since 1955 and our highly-acclaimed honorary graduates have spanned numerous industries and incredible world-changing projects.

Professor Dave Petley, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hull, said: “We are so proud of all of our graduates and the dedication and hard work they’ve put in to achieve their degrees.

“Graduation is a wonderful day of celebration when students and their families are filled with pride as they walk across the stage and collect their degree.

“Whether it’s through their exceptional contribution to science, public service, business or the arts, we thank them for their commitment in all they do.

Dr Carol Thomas BEM said: I’m proud to announce that tomorrow I am to be awarded a Honorary Doctorate of the University of Hull, ie. I will become Dr Carol Thomas BEM DUniv(Hull).

Bowled over by this one, totally left field, no idea of it & so proud of my home town once again❤

Once again I must thank my Family, Friends & Football Family for without their Love and Support I would not have achieved what I have and also received the many lovely awards over the past 20 months.

Thomas, born in Hull, spoke of her delight to represent her hometown club as ambassador.

“I was approached with regard to becoming the Tigresses first ever Ambassador and Lifetime Honorary Member. Despite my current hectic calendar, as a true hullensian, I am deeply honoured to accept these roles from my local club. I will endeavour to represent and promote the club positively thereby helping them climb the football ladder. I hope to see you all at home games and please feel free to come and chat to me.”
