Match Report – Lincoln City (Pre-Season)
Preparations for the big kick off continued under a warm Augustal (is that a word?…) sun in Lincolnshire.
8 senior players were missing for City, who used this opportunity to get valuable minutes out of many, with just 2 weeks to go until York.
The squad was balanced, and completed, by some of the young reserve side, with their new manager Max Brentano completing the coaching team for the day
Lauren Wentworth made her premier first team start, building on recent weeks impact appearances. Lily Scott debutised, in what was her first ever post 16 game, coming on in the 20th minute following a knock to Wentworth, and Alice McKenna made her second senior appearance for the games last 20.
Continuing her development and rise, Kahlen Watters, in an unfamiliar Left Back role, showed herself as composed and dominant as a prime Maldini.
Shakala Brookes rounded out the quintet (that one is a word!) of teenagers making up the squad. Shays relentless energy and runs, which always started with a customary ‘Meep-Meep’, scared and entertained all in attendance as she attacked relentlessly
There was a first full 90 for Trialist C, who’s announcement is due this week
In the first 45, mistakes were made and well punished by a clinical Lincoln front line. However more of the big chances came to and were squandered by the Tigress cubs. Lessons to be learned for sure
The second half was different. The girls pitched a tent, lit a fire and settled in for some marshmallows on sticks as Hull camped themselves in Lincoln territory for the 45. Relentless pressing and work, as well as the HCL way with the ball, put the hosts under pressure. A goal from Ellice Jackman was powerfully taken, and was unfortunate to not be joined by other big chances that fell the teams way
There is a behind closed doors friendly vs Sheffield United Development on Thursday, before we round out preseason welcoming fans back through the door against the newly renamed Halifax WFC, on Sunday 13th. Get your tickets, here
