Hull City Ladies’ FAWNL Div 1 North fixture away at Chester-Le-Street Town was over in a flash as a torrential downpour and persistent lighting halted the fixture at half-time
City were ahead. A series of early attacks put the Tigresses in dominance, and a flurry of corners were delivered excellently by Thompson, giving the hosts plenty of problems. On the 5th minute a push on Tanser as she attacked the latest corner at the near post, and the referee pointed to the spot – Up stepped Hope Knight who slotted home what would have been her 6th of the season
The hosts grew in to the game, but it was still City who had the chances: Knight, Tanser and Thompson all had good efforts that were saved or deflected behind
It reached half time, warm-sweaty and uncomfortable, no one would have guessed what was to come
As the teams stepped out to the tunnel for the second half it was raining; and not just raining, but Build-An-Arc raining. As soon as there were a number of flashes the referee called it. A final check of the pitch confirmed it was ready for the evenings water-polo semi-finals
After the non-game manager Chris Hames reflected on the game and the week
“It is disappointing, of course it is, to travel all this way in such heat as well, and for the game to be off because of a water-logged pitch just doesn’t seem to make sense, but it was biblical out there. The correct decisions were made absolutely
I’ve said to the girls how proud I am of them this week. 2 and half good games, where we looked solid, confident and convicted in our way of playing and that is all we can ask for really. Legs were heavy, there are big bruises on bruises from the 3 games, but that is what it’s about – we have to manage all this to be successful
The exciting thing for me is there are plenty of steps forward for us to take. Our job is to work hard to make sure we don’t take any backwards in the coming weeks”
