Tigresses face sucker punch on return to FAWNL action

City were able to dominate the game in the clash between 3rd and 2nd in the league. The majority of the ball and chances fell to the visitors who between both boxes looked like their usual selves. Though in a battle between the leagues top scorers and the stingiest of defences, the defence won out, reducing City to their first blank in the league this season. First Half goals from the excellent Turnbull and Abby Towers were enough to secure the hosts the win

City started with the first real chances, Lynskey and Thompson both testing Wareham in the Boro goal. It was on the break from one of these chances that the first goal was scored. A loose ball was picked up down the middle by Turnbull who ran through and slotted past Wallace early in the half

Again City had the best of it, limiting the hosts to a handful of chances. Bott, Thompson and Ackroyd all had opportunities in this time to get the equaliser, with Tanser having a header cleared off the line

Then the gut-punch. Just before half time a Boro corner wasn’t cleared, and the second ball was fired high into the goal

HT 2-0

Middlesbrough did brilliantly throughout the second half to make every opportunity worked for by Tigresses.

Bott made a run at the near post, her deftest of flicks was excellently saved by Wareham. Bott again drove in from the left hand side, this time her low strike struck the outside of the post

Ackroyd was limited throughout to chances from range, and the best of them fell on 60 minutes. Great build up play from the left opened up the chance, but her strike whistled just the wrong side of the post

Havery broke late and struck the woodwork with a vicious strike before Tanser and Lynskey again had half chances from set pieces

FT 2-0
