Clinical City hit five

A far from perfect performance from the travelling Tigresses, and yet making the most of the chances created have a comfortable final result.

An early goal from Helen Lynksey set the game underway, inside 10 minutes. But it wasn’t until the second half that City got going. Lynksey again early in the second half, Tanser and then a late Ackroyd brace rounded out the day.

Shakala Brookes collected the ball in the midfield, wriggling herself some room before slicing a ball through the back four of Chorley and into the on running Ackroyd – her weighted ball across goal was there to be tapped home by Lynksey at the back post.

It was then the hosts who had the next spell of chances. Wallace had to save low at the feet Tyers. This was then followed by a pile driver from Newhouse whose effort cannoned off the bar.

HT 1-0

Any sense of a Chorley fight back was eradicated early in the second half as Lynksey doubled the lead. A long ball from Wallace was helped on by Ackroyd to Lynksey who evaded the offside trap and looped her effort over the stranded Bradley.

Minutes later, it was three. Wattam punched a ball through the line to the liberated Brookes. Her first time set into the run of the skipper and Tanser broke through the line and drilled a finish low into the far corner.

The final two goals came late in the game. Lynksey this time turned provider, setting a ball out of the air for Ackroyd who steered the strike into the far corner .

Ackroyd rounded off the day with the best of the lot. A loose pass from the Chorley keeper was picked up, controlled and rifled into the far top corner.
