City stutter against battling York

An early goal from Helen Lynskey was cancelled out early in the second half to share the spoils in a tense and compact game

The Tigresses started well, hitting a couple of early efforts on target after some swift interplay.

A goal mouth scramble insued from a corner, but Sidwell in the York goal did well to keep it out.

Knight delivered and the ball from a corner but the initial cross was cleared away, back to the City 24. Hope skipped past her defender and drove the ball back across the 6 yard box to find Lynskey, to prod home

York had shown signs by this point. Holder had a half chance on the break earlier in the half and provided a dangers cross that was well headed away

The game began to break down into bouncing balls and late challenges, killing any rhythm

City did have another good chance in the half. Knight driving into space behind the full back, and picking out Brookes who opted to pass and picked out Tanser who’s effort followed us back over the Humber later in the evening

45 seconds into the second half York got their second chance of the game. And their goal. City switched off from a throwin. A good turn from York captain Brown, and a sliced shot picked out Holder at the back post, who tapped in

Then came a string of City chances.

Ackroyd raced through the middle, but was unable to slot her effort beyond the onrushing Sidwell

Knight had a high effort after a mazy run well saved, before then blasting over after turning her way away from the York left back
