Hull Coty Ladies secured the FAWNL Div 1 North title away in devastating fashion, away at local side Leeds United.

Goals from Knight (x2), Lynksey, Brookes and Ackroyd powered the Tigresses past a tough opponent.

Knowing that a win would secure the title going into the final weekend, that clarity of mind and a determination to get the job done shone from the first minute. City didn’t let their hosts out in the early stages.

But it wasn’t until the 36th minute that the deadlock was broken. Ackroyd won an initial header, and Tanser powered through and lofted a brilliant ball through to the path of Knight who applied the finish first time. Hopes first goal of 2024.

Moments later it was 2. A free kick from the far left channel was lined up by FAWNL top goal scorer Helen Lynksey. An expert delivery evaded everyone and into the back of the Leeds net.

HT 2-0

The second half Leeds came out hungry and put on a brilliant early showing. A point blank header from a corner that Wallace did well to react and palm away, along with some further dangerous attempts from set pieces put the game in an exiting position.

That was until Lib Bott. The returning left back delivered a delightful ball to the far post that Tanser, arriving late, connected with perfectly, but her effort cannoned off the cross bar. As city applied pressure to keep the ball high, Jackman was fouled and another Freekick.

Bott again swung it in. The initial header was won by a Leeds defender, but only to the feet of Knight. Her effort couldn’t be held and Brookes at the back post was able to prod home.

Ackroyd had been a force throughout the game. Breaking from deep inside Hull territory, Ackers combined well with Tanser before racing through and lobbing the onrushing keeper. A counter, box-to-box, in 10 seconds.

Then Knight got her second. More aggressive pressing from the front saw Jackman win a powerful header that fell deep into the Leeds half, it fell to Knight to curl an effort into the top corner.

Leeds got a late penalty. Wallace saved the initial effort before Rousseau slotted home the rebound to keep herself in the hunt for the golden boot.

Plenty more happened. But it is now a blur.

What a night!
