What started with a rocket back in August, ended with a tap in, in May
Between it, 20 more goals (17 in the league), including some outlandish finishes worthy of making a goal of the season competition amongst themselves
22 in 30 games in all competitions. 19 in 22 league games. All from the comfort of midfield
In the league, only Durham Cestria survived a Helen Lynskey goal in 2023/24. An opening day goal away at York was followed up by a hattrick in City’s first home game of the season vs Middlesbrough. Screamers, rockets, net busters all flew in against Belles, FC United and Stockport. After Christmas the game changed – with Katie Thompson retiring and Hope Knight injured, Helen stepped up to start ticking off the ‘boring’ goals. 11 goals in the second half of the season fast tracked her (and City) to the top of the table
It has been a remarkable season from an ever green, and ever hungry veteran.
Helen attended Wembley stadium on Sunday 12th May ahead of the Women’s FA Cup Final to celebrate her achievement, being awarded the Golden Boot Box at the FAWNL Awards
Manager Chris Hames was in attendance with Helen and had this to say
“Helen has been a beacon for the team since the first game, she set the tone and the standard on day one to ensure we got the win. We ask for senior players to step up, to lead by example and Hels did that throughout this year – I have never seen such a one track determination to succeed before. To do this is a great achievement, but to do it from midfield is further testament to the work that has been put in”
