Rugby Borough secured all three points with a 4-0 victory against Hull City Ladies.
An impeccably observed minutes’ silence and the Last Post to remember those who sacrificed their lives so we can have our tomorrow. We Will Remember Them.
It was an unchanged XI from last week’s 0-7 victory against Washington. With Lily Cockerill appearing on the bench.
Rugby opened the scoring in the 13th minute through a simple finish from five yards out and nearly doubled their lead just moments later but an excellent goal-line clearance from Cath Hamill prevented the goal!
However, Rugby doubled the lead just two minutes later through Nicky Potts. Nicky found herself in a good position on the six-yard line and buried her chance from close range.
Rugby pushed for a third goal but a fantastic header of the line from Helen Lynskey kept the score-line at 2-0.
Moments before half-time the Tigresses were unfortunate not to have a goal pulled back. After a hectic two minutes, a penalty claim for the Tigresses was waved away. Then 30 seconds later Sophie Tinson picked the ball up from edge of the area and her effort rattled the crossbar, as Hull City Ladies went behind 2-0 at the break.
A good save from Abi Wallace to keep Rugby out, as the cold settled in on a brisk November Sunday. Bring your thermals to the next games!
Chris Hames’ side battled away as Lily Cockerill came on for Sophie. A good chance from good build-up play but Shakala Brookes’ effort was saved well.
The home side scored their fourth and final goal of the evening through Greenslade.. Chris Hames reflected honestly in his post match interview which you can read here!
The Tigresses now turn their attention to Burnley as we now have back-to-back home games, Burnley this Sunday in the FAWNL before Middlesbrough on Sunday 24th November in the 2nd Round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.
