Hull City Ladies continued their unbeaten start to the season, comfortably pushing aside Sheffield United PGA in the FAWNL Cup Group S
Having won the opening match of this years revamped tournament 5-1 under the lights at the Versa Sportswear Stadium, City repeated the feat in game day 2
Kicking off at 7pm on a Sunday evening isn’t the most usual of game day scenarios, but circumstances led to it and brought a fantastic mix of weekend energy, with the special ‘Game under the lights’ feeling
City hosted the PGA side to have been placed in Group S – Sheffield United U21s have themselves been unbeaten at their start to the season, the young Blades flying through their opening league fixtures and securing a solid win over Tier 4 side Barnsley WFC
It took just 10 minutes for the Tigresses to open the scoring. Grace Foyer making her first start and home debut, cut inside from the left and unleashed a wicked strike that flew in over the stranded keeper
An Erin Nicholson delivery found the captain-for-the night Cath Hamill inside the 6, to nod home her first of the season, just 5 minutes later
Nine minutes after that, another corner. This time from the other side, Hope Knight delivered deep finding Tugby-Andrew who steered the ball back across goal to Erin Nicholson who nodded home her third of the season
Five minutes later the visitors got one back – a brilliant break down the right was guided in to and across the City 6 yard box, before it was bundled over the line for a Wattam OG
Before the break Sophie Haywood restored the Tigresses three goal advantage, and scored her first goal for the club, after Hope Knight crashed a shot on to the crossbar
HT 4-1
The second half was less dramatic in its action, as the hosts looked to assert more control on the ball throughout
Grace Ayer had her second of the night ruled out for a narrow offside, before Knight joined the scoring. Firstly tapping home after the goal keeper spilled a well delivered Nicholson free kick, and then scoring a powerful header at the back post following a whipping Gatt cross from the right
FT 6-1
The Tigresses next fixture is at home to Liverpool Feds on Sunday 14th September, in a return to league action
City next return to Cup action on Sunday 28.09.25, when they visit Barnsley Women at the Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park
