Tigresess progress

While progression through to the next round was all but assured, the Tigresses ensured they were group winners for Monday nights FAWNL Cup draw, after a comeback 2-2 draw with Barnsley

Chris Hames made three changes for the cup, giving a first senior start to Maiya Akrill, as well as the return to the side for Amy Wilson who last started in March 2023 before  long term injury

On the slope at Barnsley Houghton Main home, it was the home side who picked up momentum first. Ocean Rolandsen running through following a mistake in the tigress back line and slotting easily in to the back of the net

City had the majority of the ball, but struggled to link well enough to really cause issue to their hosts, and again in playing out Barnsley capitalised an a mistake and, despite putting the ball in the net, were awarded a penalty

City came out with more intent, the tempo of which set by young Akrill who had started to grow in to the match

It was her press that forced the turnover of possession, and then a flowing passing move, from one side of the pitch to the other before Haywood prodded through the advancing Gigg who was able to poke home

Then it was all City, really.

The equaliser came 30 minutes later. Smooth link up again through the team resulted in a pin point cross from Cockerill to the head of Akrill who steered it into the far corner

City did get a senior debut for Sophie Wilson. The York City graduate has been excelling for the Development side this early season, and came on on the 60th minute
