Jo Symington: A Tigress, A Legend, A Hull City Lady

After an incredible chapter spanning more than a decade, Hull City Ladies defender Jo Symington has announced her retirement from playing and will be leaving the club.

Jo first pulled on the Tigress shirt as a young player at 15 years old and quickly established herself as one of the most reliable and committed defenders in the squad. A true one-club woman at heart, she returned to the Tigers after a brief spell away, proving that her connection to Hull City Ladies runs deep. She has bled black and amber through every promotion battle, every gritty defensive display, and every milestone the club has achieved.

A treble promotion winner, former captain, and wearer of the number 3 shirt, after 13+ years at the club nearing 300 games, Jo has been the bedrock of the team’s backline for many seasons. Known for her leadership, composure under pressure, she epitomised everything it means to be a Hull City Lady.

Our Club Chair Rachel Gay Had to Say:

Jo was my captain for many years and led us to promotion to Tier 3 first time round. A fantastic leader on and off the pitch, a great character to have around the club and a true friend to everyone who played alongside her. She has had a remarkable footballing career, one she can certainly be proud of. Her time at Hull City Ladies FC has massively contributed to where we are now, and I cannot thank her enough for her commitment to the club. It’s a real shame she had a bad injury last year, as I’m sure she would have continued to make a big impact for us for a few more years. I wish her all the best for the future and hope that she enjoys more time to spend with her family.

You’re a legend of the club Jo, thank you for everything. “

Here’s What Jo Had to Say About Her Time With the Tigresses:

I have absolutely loved playing for this incredible club over the years. I joined when I was just 15 years old and have had the privilege of seeing the club change, grow, and develop into what it is today.

Like any journey in sport, there have been plenty of highs and a few lows, but we have always faced them together as a team.

One of my fondest memories has to be leading the team to promotion to the third tier of women’s football for the first time back in 2018. There have been other great moments since, but that will always stand out.

The club continues to grow, and I believe there are many more great achievements ahead. I’ve had my time as a player, and now it’s the right time to step back, spend time with family and support from the sidelines, giving the next generation the chance to take over and write the club’s next chapter 🖤🧡”

The entire club at Hull City Ladies would like to place on record our enormous gratitude to Jo for her outstanding service, loyalty and contribution to the Tigresses. She leaves as a true club legend.

Thank you, Jo. Once a Tigress, always a Tigress.
