Haywood is Home!

Hull City Ladies are delighted to announce the signing of dynamic attacker Sophie Haywood

Hull born and bred, Sophie came through the East Riding Centre of Excellence alongside a number of the current Tigress squad, before its collapse, going on to make her senior debut for Notts County in the WSL in 2014

Her career since has taken her to Aston Villa, making 50 appearances for the West Midlands club, playing an instrumental part in the side that were promoted to the WSL in the 2019/20 season

Sophie then returned to the Championship with Sheffield United, and then Newcastle United, across the next three seasons. A loan move to Nottingham Forest followed, part of the squad who lifted the FAWNL Norther Premier title and the League Cup double last season

We all extend our warmest welcome to the club to Sophie, husband Jack and all her family

Hull City Ladies First team Manager, Chris Hames said:

We are delighted to have a player of Sophie’s talent, experience and drive, join us.

Sophie is a standard bearer for what girls from Hull can achieve in the game, she has gone on and played at the highest level, breaking that barrier – laying a path that she can now inspire from back at home

We need to take the next steps as a football club, in everything we do. Sophie is a consummate professional and can take us there, in standards she sets and the level we must all get to, to match them

In the best possible way the pressure builds on us all with bringing a player like Sophie in, and the pressure on herself to take us forward – pressures that I have no doubt Sophie will thrive in

Sophie Haywood says, on her move:

I’m really excited to sign here and come back home. This has been something I’ve thought about for a while now and it just felt like the right time for me. That’s what I’m most excited about, being able to wear the badge and represent this city and the people in it. To hopefully give back to a place that gave me so much growing up when I was learning to play the game.

Personally I want to be on the pitch as much as possible and help the team in whatever way I can. I’d like to build some consistent form and hopefully I bring a bit of experience and leadership. Ultimately, I want to help the team be success and be competitive in a very difficult and growing league.
